Lighthouses & Lakeboats
Books by
Wes Oleszewski
|
|
In
a combination that is sure to please both lighthouse buff and shipwreck
enthusiast, author Wes Oleszewski created “Lighthouse Adventures,
Heroes, Haunts and Havoc on the Great Lakes.” This book contains all
of the true adventures of shipwrecks and lighthouses that the author
could not put in his previous release, “Great Lakes Lighthouses”.
The work is much more in keeping with this author’s style of historical
narrative and pains-taking research. It is a fascinating look into
all aspects of Great Lakes lights and the vessels that they were constructed
to guide. |
In his research, the author has uncovered
and presented to the readers rare documents and drawings that date
back as far as 1852. There are tales of wild fires, howling gales,
vessels aflame on the open lake, mariners smashed on the rocks, lighthouse
keepers in acts of unimaginable valor and a real ghost whose photo
appears in the book as she looks out of a window and right past the
reader. Some of the stories are short and offer a taste of lighthouses,
and some of the tales are long and highly detailed. There are details
of the construction of the most remote lights on the lakes, and the
most urban of lake lighthouses. In all there are 15 completely different
and highly captivating true tales of the lakes and the lights.
|
Highlights
of this text include the true ghost story of the mysterious lady who
haunts the Pointe aux Barques lighthouse grounds and the disastrous
burning of the steamer CLARION as it was seen from the wooden lightship
KEWAUNEE. In the case of the ghost lady, the author’s own photos are
shown and in one of them she appears looking from the window of the
keeper’s house which has been closed for the season. In the case of
the burning CLARION, the author has found a rare and never before
published photo of the lightship KEWAUNEE. |
This
book is absolutely packed with information, maps, cutaway drawing,
rare photos and obscure stories that will be found in no other book
anywhere. To garnish the text there are true tales of valor will reaffirm
the reader’s faith in the people who worked upon the lights and the
lakes. |

If
the reader thinks that they have seen every photo that exists of
every light on the lakes, they will be pleasantly stunned to find
several that they had never imagined existed. In all this book contains
